The Fjaka Room

Heat, cold, and the lake in between.

A wood-fired sauna on the bank, twelve places, and an hour to drift between the heat and the water.

Fjaka (pronounced fyah-ka) is a Croatian word for a blissful state of complete relaxation: peaceful, unhurried, the art of doing nothing. It comes from the Dalmatian coast, and it is not laziness but a mindful, intentional way of being, which made it the right name for our lakeside sauna.

The Fjaka Room is perfectly placed overlooking the water, inviting you to drift between heat and cool, quiet reflection and lively conversation, solo time and shared moments. It's a space to let go of stress, lift your spirits, and connect with others in the beauty of the outdoors.

Simple, social and deeply refreshing. Whether you're easing tired muscles after a workout or just taking time to unwind and recharge, it's the perfect place to do it. The sauna and the lake are yours for the full hour of your slot, whether you prefer the heat or the cold.

How an hour goes

Twelve in the heat, never more. The rest is up to you.

  1. Check in and change

Check in with the team at the café, then change under cover by the sauna. Bring a robe: there are no private changing rooms.

  2. Into the heat

Ten to fifteen minutes at a time, at 75 to 90 degrees. Water on the stove is the sauna guide's job; sit back and let it happen.

  3. Into the lake

Tow float on and straight in. The cold is the point: a minute in the water and the heat feels new again.

  4. Repeat, then the café

Go between the two as many times as you like within the hour. The Fika Café is open before and after for something warm.

Sessions

One booking, one place in the lake and one in the sauna for the same hour, as many times between the two as you like. Clothing optional hours run after the day's swimming.

Good to know

  • Ages

The sauna is 16 and over. Clothing optional sessions are 18 and over, and the lake and sauna are used only for that session.

Under-18s come with an adult, as on any swim.

  • Heat and health

Ten to fifteen minutes in the heat at a time, then out. Drink water. The sauna waiver asks about blood pressure, heart conditions, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, fainting and pregnancy: read it before your first session and tell the team if anything applies.

  • What to bring

Swimwear, a towel and water. Take off jewellery, glasses and contact lenses before you go in. A felt hat if you have one; we have some to borrow.

A tow float for the lake; borrow one for a donation.

  • The rules

No food, alcohol or exercise inside. Water on the stove is the team's job. Leave the sauna as you found it, and listen to the sauna guide.

Questions about the sauna

No. Every Swim & Sauna booking gives you a place in both, but you can stay in the heat, sit by the water, or dip to your knees. A Sauna Membership is for people who only want the heat.

Twelve places, one hour

Book a session and the lake is there to cool off.

Every session is pre-booked. New to the heat? Book Swim & Sauna and take it a few minutes at a time.

Sauna evenings run most months: sound baths with Shyen, and Stories, Scent & Steam with Nix. They are on the events page.
